In an emerging industry, anything can happen…and it looks like a partnership has taken the word ‘frenemies’ to the next level! Ford has decided to team up with Tesla to use their charging technology in its electric vehicles (EVs).
So, here’s the back story. Ford has been investing big time in electric vehicles and they want to make sure their customers have easy access to charging infrastructure. They looked around and faced the reality that Tesla has a killer Supercharger network, but it’s only used by Tesla owners. So, instead of building their own charging network from scratch, Ford decided to collaborate with Tesla and use their charging technology in their upcoming EVs.
This partnership is actually a win-win. Ford gets to leverage Tesla’s existing charging infrastructure, which means their customers will have more charging stations available to them, and they won’t have to worry about building and maintaining their own network. On the other hand, Tesla benefits from this partnership by gaining revenue from Ford for the use of their charging technology.
This move by Ford is seen as a smart strategic decision, as it allows them to focus on developing their EV lineup while also providing a better charging experience for their customers. It’s a bit funky to see two arch rival automakers teaming up in this way, but it says a lot about the leadership of both organizations.
As they say, actions speak louder than words–and this move speaks volumes about the commitment towards getting EVs out there as soon as possible. Unlikely bedfellows? Sure. But we’re giving them two thumbs up toward the greater good!
