Tesla to splash $500M on chargers
Tesla is planning to spend “well over” half a billion dollars to expand its electric-vehicle charging network this year, CEO Elon Musk said Friday — just days after the company axed most of the team that built that network. The automaker will focus on expanding existing sites while slowing the pace of building new ones, Musk had noted last week. Meanwhile, oil giant BP is reported to be eyeing Tesla’s U.S. charging sites, as it looks to expand its own network. The company plans to spend $1 billion by 2030 to install 3,000 EV-charging locations across the country.
